lying on my back

imagining cotton balls

staring at the clouds

— —

I just needed a moment.

The project I was working on was taking a lot out of me. Sweaty and sore and already sitting on the ground, I decided to lie on my back, close my eyes, and center myself. After a few minutes of just ‘being’, I opened my eyes and immediately noticed the clouds. Smaller, white clouds that, while ragged around the edges, were of a uniform size and shape and spaced evenly from one another. In some ways, it looked like a kid took cotton balls and glued them to a sky blue piece of construction paper and had their parents nail it to the ceiling. A bit of research this morning revealed that they were ‘altocumulus’, but much more uniform than normal.

Yes, I just needed a moment… and a moment I got, worthy of haiku.
