For today’s haiku, I trained the gaze of my new word count script on my Haiku Project folder and challenged myself to write a haiku with the 100 words I used the most in my poetry and the prose explaining it. I did feel just a bit more limited this time around, for example, I wanted to use some form of the word ‘write’ but none of them are in my top 100. Truthfully, there aren’t a lot of non-passive verbs in the top 100. Quite a bit of the list consists of articles, conjunctions, and prepositions which, while important, don’t move the narrative along. In the end, we get a haiku constructed by material from haiku I’ve written about me writing haiku — a phrase guaranteed to raise the work ‘haiku’ a place or two in the standings.
