like a drug habit

struggling to rid myself

of schadenfreude

For the unfamiliar, ‘schadenfreude’ is the German concept of ‘joy in the misery of others’.

I found that feeling kicking around in my head earlier this week when someone I don’t particularly get along with got themselves in a jam. That lasted for just a couple of minutes before I remembered that’s not the person I want to be anymore. What followed was an equally powerful feeling — shame. I intend to use that feeling to try and get myself to a better place.
