Haiku 2023–353
a mindful moment
millions of tiny snow flakes
obscure the city
— —
Believe it or not, this is a haiku about hard work… and gratitude.
I was sitting in my corner office with a commanding view of the city because of the hard work I’ve put in over the last thirty-three years.
I heard a bell in my office because I wrote a program for myself that plays a sound file at random intervals to serve as a reminder for me to be mindful — something I’ve been working for several years now.
When the bell rang, I noticed my breath and looked up to see a snow squall moving across the valley towards the city. One moment the city is bathed in light from a break in the clouds, then the next moment I can barely see fifty feet away.
So many moments, so many decisions, so much effort lead me to be where I was in that moment. I sit here in gratitude for all of it because it made that beautiful moment possible.
