The most rigorous study to date of how much it costs to care for Americans with dementia found that the financial burden is at least as high as that of heart disease or cancer, and is probably higher.

I’ve never feared death, but I have feared the cost of dying since I was a teen. Oh, so cancer doesn’t run in the family? Here — have some heart disease, Parkinson’s, rheumatoid arthritis, and dementia. What’s that? You’re insured? Well now you’re broke.
