St. Vincent, “New York”

Here’s hoping the city is as empty as you want it to be.

Hopefully you are not reading this. You are outside, and your computer is far away from you. Ideally your phone isn’t anywhere near you either. But I know it is. Maybe you should shut it off. Does anyone turn their phones off anymore? The answer is no, right? Because they’re also the cameras we use to prove that we’re outside, as well as verify that our acquaintances are outside, too. See my hot dog legs? I like yours too. Here is a new song from St. Vincent with decidedly non hot dog legs. It’s good and simple and wistful, and works well as a lovely little elegy for that very specific past version of unique New York that you have personally loved and lost.
