Keep Your Man Card

Stepping out of the shadows of shame

IF you are anything like me or hang out with the type of guys I hang out with, you have lost your “Man Card” once or twice. I don’t even know where it comes from or when you get it. All I know is that if you are around the right person while doing something that is perceptibly “unmanly” they will snatch it from you in a heartbeat. This is easily done considering there really is no physical card that one carries in his wallet. I feel like there should be a physical man card, and it should require some kind of physical altercation in order for someone to take it. But, I digress.

It would appear that men fear that turning in their man card is a requirement of the church.

With an incorrect interpretation of what manhood really is, many men reluctantly follow their wives into church in an attempt to fulfill their part of the contract. In the American South, they do so as a matter of culture or social acceptance. Though they sit in the chairs and hear the teaching, they stay in hiding from the shame of their secret lives.

The Hangarmen are calling you out of hiding.

The caricature of Jesus that has been presented is false. You don’t have to sit in the shadows of shame any longer! Jesus is a Warrior King who has the power to deliver you from your shame and protect you from the patterns of your life that keep you pinned. Jesus doesn’t keep you from being a man, He shows you what it’s like to fully be a man.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10 NIV)

So don’t stay hidden in the shadows as an attempt to hold on to your man card. Step into the light, receive the freedom offered by Jesus, and break the patterns. Go ahead, keep your man card and allow Jesus to keep you from ever losing it again.
