Should you follow your head or your heart?
I was browsing through one of the online stores the other day and came across one apparel which was so impressive. I really wanted this to be added to my wardrobe. I checked the price. It was way out of my league. Yet my heart kept chanting ‘Buy it, Buy it, People would compliment you for your wonderful selection’. Then I heard the brain interrupting the serious flow of thoughts saying, ‘Are you out of your mind? This is more than what you can or should spend ‘.
People say listen to your heart you will never regret not having lived the life you wanted. Yet other times people also say your heart deceives you and is always sweet but the brain is harsh yet always right. What should I do now? On several occasions, we would have come across situations which test us out. Should we listen to the heart or the brain? Which is more powerful? Following which is going to help us take the right decisions.
A wrong decision in choosing apparel might not cause any terrible complication but to burn your purse. Yet life decisions like choosing a career, making an investment or in fact even choosing your life partner aren’t cases we can take a chance. A wrong decision is all that is needed to ruin our life.
The brain and the heart have always wanted to help us out. Yet why do we always prefer the voice of the heart over the brain? The brain makes logical decisions. The heart, on the other hand, makes decisions which give us pleasure and momentary happiness. There are many cases where we have followed our heart because we liked its voice better. We realize later that we should have listened to the brain because what it said was eventually right though we didn’t like it the first place.
There is no one person who can tell for sure which has to be followed, the heart or the brain. Yet there is one trick that works all the time. Whenever you want to make any decision or when there is a time you are forced to respond about something which you are not sure about, give it a thought for about 10 seconds. In those few seconds, you desperately would want something to happen. Some might call it as intuition some might say it’s the voice of the brain. Whatever it might be, go by what you hear in those few seconds. You will never regret making that decision. Thinking about something for more than those few seconds will involve the voices of both your brain and heart which are always contradicting and would ultimately lead to confusion. Those few seconds is what really matters. That’s all the time it takes to make the right decisions. Give it more thought and the inevitable see-saw of the brain vs heart starts all over again fighting to show which is more powerful.
Just remember, both the brain and the heart are here to guide us. Whichever side of the fence you are it doesn’t matter. All it matters is that you put in your best efforts and be proud of your decisions.
