If you’re like me, you’ve known grief. You’ve most likely lost several people in your life that you loved and cared about.

Some happened when I was a little girl: I lost one uncle when I was 10, then another uncle at 21. I’m 43 now, and in the past 5 years alone, I’ve lost my grandpa, my dad, both of my grandma’s, and several friends to either suicide, accidents, or medical issues. I’ve also lost my loving and devoted German Shepherd and two cats.

In addition to the stress of dealing with the COVID pandemic these last couple of months, I’ve also had multiple friends lose spouses, one due to a terminal illness they had been battling for years, and another to an extremely unexpected and horrible accident.

What blatantly illustrates how many people I’ve lost the most is when I’m looking through social media at my contacts. It seems more and more, I’ll be scrolling through my list of ‘Friends’ to invite to an event or something, and I see they’re gone, gone, gone, gone… ugh…

All of this experience with death and the passing of loved ones, and knowing others who have also experienced sadness and grief, has taught me that there are different things people can say and do to help…
