The word “Medellín” is actually the name of a city in Colombia (the city where Maluma was born). It’s pronounced “meh-deh-YIN” since a double LL in Spanish is pronounced like a ‘Y’. Madonna and Maluma performed the song at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, but what do the lyrics mean?

Madonna con Maluma (Madonna with Maluma)

She’s already had “La Isla Bonita”, which means, “The Pretty Island”, and now we have “Medellín”. Whilst Madonna doesn’t sing that much Spanish in this song, there is a lot of Spanish from Maluma. Madonna sings “Ven conmigo”, which means “Come with me”, and Maluma sings the rest of the Spanish parts. Let’s look at once snippet and see what it means:

Oye mamacita, ¿qué te pasa?
Mira que ya estamos en mi casa

“Oye” means “Listen” and “mamacita” is a colloquial word used when talking to somebody you find attractive. Then we have the question, “¿Qué te pasa?”

“¿Qué pasa?” by itself means “What’s happening?” or “What’s up?”, so, if you put the little “te” in there, you get “What’s happening with you?” or “What’s going on with you?”.
