This Week in Wizard Activism: Happy Spooky Halloween!
By Deanna Cooley

Happy spooOoOOky Halloween, Wizard Activist!

Welcome to another edition of this week in Wizard Activism.
Staffer of the Week!
This week we are honoring Jordan Keller.
Jordan is a relatively new recruit, but she is such a bright spot in WAS! She is conscious that WORDS MATTER and is so ready to help people use the best ones to make a change for good.

Jordan is a Ravenclaw from Portland Oregon. She is a Wizard Activist School facilitator for the HPA. Jordan is passionate about the climate crisis, other environmental justice, and feminism. She got started as an activist early, around age 5 or 6 when (along with her parents) she volunteered to plant willows to restore the banks along a river in Central Oregon had been depleted by cattle grazing. This had a big impact on her, and she hopes to have the same kind of impact on her own daughter.
And now to the important questions:
Favorite HP book and why? (or favorite book of all time)
I am not sure what my favorite HP book would be but I think I have really come around to book 5. It used to be my least favorite but now that I’ve realized Harry is behaving that way because he’s experienced trauma, I view it completely differently. I think 15-year-old me just didn’t understand and considered him whiny but older me now realizes and can empathize better with what he is going through. Pride and Prejudice is my all-time favorite book though, if I had to pick one book to
re-read forever, that would be it.
Last show you binge-watched?
I am currently binging The Good Place. I am really enjoying it! I can’t wait to binge the newest season of Schitt’s Creek next though.
Favorite class you’ve ever taken in school?
I took a maritime history course that was really interesting. The professor was really passionate, he was the dean of the history department so he only taught courses he wanted, and the subject was his personal area of research which made it super interesting and very engaging.
Now, let’s celebrate our success.
As of the writing of this newsletter, the #ExpectoEquality Fundraiser has a couple of hours left (When you’re reading this it will be over) and we are at 106% of our original goal!

This is all because of you and the hard work you’ve put in to help fundraise. Everything from a retweet or share on social media, creating your own personal fundraisers where you create fun and creative individual perks, or your own personal donation, you are the reason we’ve been able to reach our goal. The HPA is as great an organization as it is because every person reading this newsletter. Thank you for everything you do and keep up the amazing work.
A Special Birthday Shout out!
Last week, She’s the First celebrated their 10th birthday!

She’s the First is an incredible organization that helps girls become the first in their families to receive an education. They work with local organizations in 12 different countries to help girls who may not otherwise have the chance, live up to her full potential. In their first ten years, they’ve helped over 7000 girls and in the next decade of work, they’ll touch the lives of so many more.
Congratulations on 10 amazing years, She’s the First! Thank you for everything you’re doing and continue to do. We here at the HPA are excited to see what comes next.
Research!
I know I tend to dwell on how we’re currently living in the worst timeline, and trust me, I’m working on it as both a human and a person that writes y’all a newsletter every month.

Which is why our researchers are so great. Without then I never would have known about this great thing that happened:
A Delta Airlines flight bringing 120 girls NASA, was piloted by an all-female flight crew. The flight was set up to highlight the gender gap in aviation and the need for more woman pilots but also as a way to empower others and show the young ladies heading to Houston, they can do anything they want to.
Want to be a part of this team?
The HPA is a place for friends, and we’re currently looking to expand our social circle. Check out our website to see all the open positions. We look forward to meeting you.
And so, ends another Week in Wizard Activism. I hope everyone has a safe Halloween and a wonderful start to November.
