This Week in Wizard Activism: An April 1st Pick-Me-Up!
By Meagan Caicedo
Hey y’all, happy Fred and George’s birthday! Also know as, April Fools Day. This update include absolutely no pranks (genuinely) but here they are anyways!
Celebrate Trans Day of Visibility with Action
March 31st was Trans Day of Visibility. This annual event celebrates the accomplishments of transgender people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve justice. With a host of anti-trans bills in state houses across the country, that work is more important than ever. Here’s three ways to honor this day:
Call this number
Two proposed laws are heading to the Governor’s desk in Alabama. They’ve already been passed by the state legislature — but the Governor can veto them. She will need significant public pressure to do so, and that’s where you come in. Call Governor Kay Ivey at 334–242–7100 and tell her to veto the bill.
You’ll speak with one of her staff (or an answering machine if you call in the evening) and can say something quick like this:
I am calling to ask Governor Ivey to veto HB1/SB10 and HB391 when they reach her desk. These bills target transgender youth in Alabama who just want to receive healthcare, go to school, and play sports alongside their friends. [If you live, work, or have family in Alabama, this is a great detail to include here]
Not up for a call? You can send an email right here!

In their article in The Nation, activists Chase Strangio and Raquel Willis reflect on why we must take action around these bills, even if we don’t live in a battleground state. Get fired up and get new ideas for action!
Wear this pin
Our perfect prefect pin is a reminder that who you are is valid, wonderful, and perfect. Wear it while you bust some hateful laws, or just some ickle first years.
Celebrate Fred & George’s Birthday!
If you need a pick me up after taking all that action, here’s the link for the livestream we did last year on April 1st for Small Things Con! It was a really fun time, and we think you’ll enjoy it.
