This Week in Wizard Activism: It’s Time to Take Action Like a Ravenclaw!
By Deanna Cooley
Happy Saturday all and welcome to September! I hope everyone had a lovely train ride into Hogwarts and is setting in nicely to the new school year!
It’s Time to Take Action Like a Ravenclaw!
Use your inner Ravenclaw research skills to support the fight for immigrant justice where you live! Join us to work together and build an open-source database of immigrant-serving and immigrant-led organizations, including concrete ways that you can help them. Here’s what you need:
- The name and website of the organization you’d like to recommend for the database
- What geographic area this organization serves
- A few details about how people can help this organization, such as volunteering, donating goods, etc.
- Share your findings in this form! (If you find more than one organization in your state/province/community, submit them all!)
No matter where you live, you can help us build this resource for wizard activists who want to help immigrants in their community. So grab some tea, get cozy, and get researching with us!
Wizard Activist School
Over the weekend, we had a Wizard Activist School Assembly where wizard activists from all over talked about their goals and passions! Did you miss our Twitter or Instagram meetings? Not to worry! You can review everything here and here.
Staffer of the Week!
This week’s Staffer of the week is Tori Peckasky! She is a proud Hufflepuff hailing from Denver Colorado who works as one of our Chapter Liaisons.
Tori was nominated by an anonymous volunteer who had nothing but great things to say about her: Tori is such a fabulous addition to the LED department and has jumped right into the fray with such amazing enthusiasm :)
Tori is most passionate about immigration and climate change. In fact, the first social justice actions she ever took part in was volunteering at a community center for immigrants. She is eager to learn more about what to do now. She was also part of the Denver Women’s March earlier this year! She is also extremely passionate about animal adoption. Remember to adopt not shop and save an animal in need from a local shelter!
And now we have some hard-hitting questions:
Fave HP book and why? (or favorite book of all time) I love Deathly Hallows!!
Last show you binge-watched? I have almost finished The Office (US) for the first time!
Favorite class you’ve ever taken in school? Gah I loved so many of my college classes! I’m gonna go with the two Shakespeare courses I took — I wanted more but my university only offered two haha!
Congratulations Tori! Keep up all the great work!
What’s Happening in the Wider Wizarding World?
The Gothamist wrote about Harry and the Potters and how much hope and love their shows bring to people!
