2028 Los Angeles Olympics Opening Ceremony: Snoop Dogg To Light Cauldron With Big Phat Blunt
In the afterglow of the rave reviews accorded the group of middle-aged rap icons following their performance at last week’s Super Bowl halftime show, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) named rapper Snoop Dogg as the official torchbearer lighter of the cauldron for the opening ceremonies of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympiad. Snoop Dogg, whose legal name is Calvin Broadus, was part of a Super Bowl performance that featured Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Anderson .Paak and Kendrick Lamar, as well as his longtime friend and collaborator Dr. Dre. The artists received near universal acclaim for their groundbreaking halftime show, the first one in Super Bowl history to feature hip-hop/rap.
After extensive deliberations, the USOC voted 16–2 to bestow the cauldron lighting honor upon Mr. Broadus. Per the committee’s press release, Mr. Broadus will enter SoFi Stadium in a chrome-wheeled 1964 Chevrolet Impala lowrider, hopping along on the car’s hydraulic lift system. After he cruises through a set designed to resemble his childhood neighborhood in Long Beach, California, Mr. Broadus will arrive at the cauldron, built to look like a 40,000 ounce bottle of Olde English “800” Malt Liquor.
