Inertia’s Toy Tends to Stay At Rest

Gartner Group’s exhaustive analysis of the lucrative 2023 Christmas season indicates that, across all vertical toy markets, the Action of Inaction Jackson Inaction Figure ranked number one in multiple categories.

Inertia Toys was first to market with the inaction figure concept. Laissez Faire, Inertia’s Director of Enervation, welcomed the Gartner report and expressed confidence that Inaction Jackson would continue to listlessly hang out in the competitive inaction figure sector.

Inertia’s earlier attempts at creating a popular niche market figure ended with two failed prototypes, people’s attorney Class Action Jackson and her corporate arch nemesis Infraction Jackson. “Kids in focus groups generally supported the concept of a legal procedural enabling multiple plaintiffs to file on behalf of a larger group,” said Faire. “But it was just exasperating for them to see that no matter how many times Infraction Jackson was fined, it was still more profitable for him to just kept re-offending.”

Class Action Jackson files yet another suit, while Infraction Jackson packs for his offshore account (sold separately).

Inaction figures have gained in popularity over the years owing to their inability to achieve anything during play. “There’s a lot of pressure on kids these days,” said Faire, “and sometimes they need an outlet for doing nothing. When a child receives an action figure, it’s implied that the child better make it succeed. Inaction figures are the exact opposite. Inaction Jackson never accomplishes a mission — he probably doesn’t know the mission is happening — and if he did, he might question if the mission, or anyone on it, even exists.”

The figure has no moving parts and can remain in a seated position even without his upholstered chair (sold separately). Available in many skin tones and constructed of good-tempered plastic, the figure is typically dressed for tasks he will never undertake — maintaining an expression of peering benevolence while enveloped in a plush robe (sold separately). A wide range of accessories include a sports car with all four tires booted, a fully furnished conference room with no other attendees, and a spinning dryer that he can be left in front of (also sold separately).

In comments to the Childe Herald, Faire elaborated on the figure’s broad appeal. “More and more in these modern times, children have an innate understanding of the frenetic pace of our culture. They know when enough is enough, even when the adults around them do not. Inaction Jackson taps into that primordial need for rest and reflection. In focus groups we often found children seating him on their parent’s smartphone.”

Asked whether Inaction Jackson would be pleased with his own popularity, Faire replied, “Honestly, he wouldn’t be thrilled. It would probably seem way too much like work to him.”
