An Open Letter to the Mom Who Wore a “We the People … are Pissed Off!” Sweatshirt to the Kids’ Taekwondo Belt Test
First of all, I want to applaud you for your bold fashion sense and bravery. Not everyone has the guts to pull off a message like that at a children’s sporting event. I think it’s safe to assume that you’re the kind of person who always pushes herself and others to be more by exhibiting subtle yet undeniable acts of courage.
I briefly considered the possibility that yes, we the people were in fact pissed off about the traffic getting here, or maybe you were bemoaning having to spend yet another evening in this hallowed dojang. But I was just avoiding the inevitable conclusion that you’ve posted several Facebook updates of “STOP THE STEAL!”
The words on your shirt start off so familiarly and then take such an unexpected turn with that dramatic ellipsis, followed by a rage-filled declarative statement complete with contemporary slang and exclamation point. So relatable and to the point! Imagine if the Founding Fathers had included that line? Perhaps they would have reached their goals a little sooner. It was an especially nice touch that the font resembled the old-timey calligraphy of the historical document itself. Classy, yet clear that you meant business.
