Careful Who You Quote
I mangled, misquoted and never saw her again
We were both freshman at the University of Delaware. We found our selves outsiders hailing from New Jersey when it seemed like 95% of the students came from the state of Delaware.
State school, lower tuition, less stringent admission standards for Delawareans, I get it. The mission of a state university is to educate the good young citizens of the state of which it bears the name.
However, if you think what drew me to her was because we were student visitors together so to speak, in group, out group, us against the world, you’re sadly mistaken.
What did draw you to her Brian?
Do you have a few minutes?
She was: beautiful, intelligent, confident, funny, friendly, honest, creative, loyal, calm, empathic and argumentative.
Argumentative?
Yes, she disagreed with me on almost everything but did so in a way that attracted me to her rather than drive me away.
A rare quality for a person to have, especially a young college student.
Sadly, it was I who made the final mistake in our burgeoning: should I be so bold as to call it, love?
