The post-ego program never ceases to amaze me — its concepts can be applied to so many different aspects of living. For instance, the junk that you have accumulated.

My wife has been “encouraging” me now that the kids have gone back to college to do some decluttering in the house.

See, after her parents died, she and her sister, and me and lots of others had to spend like almost a week getting rid of all the junk they had accumulated over their lives. And she doesn’t want to bestow this unwelcome gift on her children. She has a firm belief in not keeping a lot of junk in the house.

Specifically, she wondered about these hundreds of vinyl records. The record player itself hasn’t been touched in a few years. She thought I should get rid of that too. And also the stacks of books everywhere. Books I’ve already read and will never look at again.

Why do I keep them?

Do I want to portray myself as a learned individual? Is that why Ikeep all those books and books around — even though pretty much everything can be read online now? Talk about dust mites! Ah choo.
