(March 1, 2025. Frankfort, Kentucky.) — Residents of Liberty Hollow, Kentucky, received the most glorious news of their lives: 2025 would bring them the utopia they’d always dreamed of. By a 6 to 1 vote, the town’s Republican-led council passed a bill eliminating all city taxes. Residents would not pay property taxes, sales taxes, income taxes, or even pay for any city services or permits. Residents danced in the streets for hours on New Year’s Eve, with champagne corks flying from bottles they wouldn’t pay taxes on in a few hours. “This is a new era for America. Liberty is now guaranteed,” according to Mayor Penny Finch.

Like all dreams, reality crept in — slowly at first. The city announced it would also cut every service. No taxes? No government. And thus began the tale of Liberty Hollow’s bold journey into a libertarian experiment.

Before vacating her office, the mayor gleefully proclaimed the end of oppressive taxation. “The free market is alive and well in Liberty Hollow,” she declared, tossing her desk key to a bystander. The announcement was met with rapturous applause, particularly from local homebuilders.
