Excellence in broadcasting tried to be excellent in garnering fake praise.

An expose just unearthed details that ESPN submitted fake names to the Emmy Awards nomination committee to win more awards. The ESPN staff would take the name plates off of the awards, like the license plates off of an old car, and give them to the on-air personalities.

We contacted numerous employees, past and present, to get more insight on the grift and their reactions to the scandal.

  • ‘The crews are rumblin’ to get the show made. Turns out there was some bumlin’ and stumblin’ too.’ — Chris Berman
  • ‘I know I was pulled away from ESPN, but now it looks like they’re pulling their awards now. I’m ok with that.’ — Sage Steele
  • ‘I won awards earlier and ESPN still took away my hosting duties. So if they’re taking away awards from ESPN, whatevs.’ — Rachel Nichols
  • ‘Looks like they’re vaccinated from getting awards now.’ — Aaron Rodgers
  • ‘Sundays nights will be for watching football now, instead of these award shows.’ — Scott Van Pelt
  • ‘My husband would say ‘Can I get some’ awards. And he got them. Now it looks like he won’t.’ — Wife of Stuart Scott
  • ‘Do I have Emmy Awards? NOT IN MY HOUSE!’ — Kenny Mayne
  • ‘I’m a New York Rangers fan, and I’ve been disappointed by them before. But they didn’t disappoint me like this.’ — Linda Cohn
  • ‘My sources tell me certain ESPN employees were hoping to win Oscar awards, but then found out they’re only eligible for Emmy’s. So that’s where they’re focused turned too. ’ — Adam Schefter
  • ‘Some employees are true Jersey guys, and they said they wanted to get on-air talent ‘some friggin’ Emmy’s.’ And I guess they did. But now they didn’t.’ — Sal Paolantonio
