Having My Dirty Laundry Aired
I was beyond thrilled
I was beyond thrilled when my daughter told me she was pregnant with my first grandchild. She would call me after every visit with her OB.
On one such call she was sobbing: “Mom, the ultrasound showed that his kidneys might not be developing. I need to go back next week. Can you please come with me?”
I thought she’d have me wait outside the exam room while the test was run. But, with an expression of fear on her face I’d seen in her childhood she said, “You have to come in with me.”
The ultrasound showed all was well and the doctor asked if she wanted me to leave while he did an internal exam. She said she wanted me to stay.
He said he needed to ask some very personal questions. Did she want me to leave?
Again, she said no.
As he was still examining her, he asked “How many sexual partners have you had?”
She looked at me and pointed: “Not as many as she had.”
The doctor had to stop the exam because he was laughing too hard.
I vowed to never be in the exam room again.
