Step out into the world of exquisite appetizers.

One of the greatest challenges facing elegant people today is redundant side dishes at exclusive dinner parties. This can be an anticlimactic experience for guests. The solution is to experiment with new lively side dishes your circle can enjoy this coming garden season.

I first noticed this problem as a youth being raised in northern Canada. Summer side dishes consisted of potato salad variations and concoctions called aspic. These items were consistently served in Tupperware, the real Tupperware. As you could imagine this left a lasting effect.

The problem of redundant side dishes persists because of cultural norms, and the hectic stresses on elegant society that press us when planning our upcoming soirees. What happens is we default to our go-to’s, rather than embarking on the challenge of stepping out into the world of exquisite appetizers.

American writer and home-making media mogul Martha Stewart would agree. She tells us to complete our suppers with delicious sides like green bean casserole, sweet potato gratin, sautéed brussels sprouts, and butternut squash (Martha Stewart, 2021). Let’s move on from the potato salad, Queen Martha would say.
