I Medically Need Coffee

Will die without it.

Meditation is a great way to start the day.

It calms you.

It gives you a sense of peace.

It brings your mind to focus.

Unfortunately, I do NOT start my day this way.

My alarm blares. I doom scroll for a few minutes. Sigh. Roll out of bed hearing my body scream at me to stretch more, and I immediately go for a cup of coffee.

I waste no time getting the caffeine into my veins.

I need to feel the jitters.

I pour the coffee leftover from the previous day into a glass with ice, toss in a straw, and taste the bitterness of black coffee I love so much.

I proceed to make a new fresh pot that I will drink entirely too much of.

I rush through the typical morning routines. Brush teeth. Shave. Comb hair to not look like a hot mess. Rub lotion on face in hopes the advertised “anti-aging” works.

All of this happens with a cup of coffee in arms reach.

I get to my desk with my coffee in hand. Open computer. Plan to write. Play Solitaire instead.

By this time, the first cup of coffee has come and gone.
