If I Trip in the Woods and No One is Around to See It, Did I Trip in the Woods?

No witness. No embarrassment.

I was out hiking alone.

Of course as someone who is single, most things I do are alone.

But that’s not the point.

The point is that no one else was around.

With the exception of birds I could hear chirping, there wasn’t another living being I could see near me.

That’s when it happened.

I tripped.

It happens to us all.

Right?

We trip over something we didn’t notice.

A tree root, a rock, a stick.

Or in my case, my own feet.

Sometimes I’m clumsy.

When I’ve had some wine, I’m really clumsy. And I don’t mean when I’m drunk. Just one sip of wine and suddenly my body decides to lose balance.

So there I was in the middle of the woods hiking alone when I tripped over my own feet.

I didn’t fall, but it did startle me enough to cause me to throw my hands out to brace for impact.

I knew I must have looked like a fool. A clumsy fool.
