I’m so disheartened that I didn’t win any Olympic medal this year
My story
I’m so disheartened that I didn’t win any Olympic medal this year, or in the one before that because I never stepped out to play any sport professionally. But I’ve been so sucked into the madness of the games during the past couple of days, that I now feel like I could have been a professional athlete at anything.
I’m very sad today that apart from pursuing a career in medicine, I couldn’t be a tennis world champion + Olympian 2024. How cool would it be to have a piece of Eiffel Tower embedded in my medal, in contrast to my medal in Rio Olympics which I didn’t win?
If my mum and I streamed our live commentary for all the sports we watched, we could easily gain 100K followers. While Lakshya Sen’s maiden Olympic journey (An Indian badminton player) -was so lovely to follow, my mom didn’t hesitate to express her disappointment because he closed his bag with equipment etc only up-to half the length of the zipper. After this, she went on to narrate her sporting career in grade 2, when she took part in the running race. “I mostly ran because we would all get a peppermint at the finish line. I usually finished as one of the last people”, She laughed.
We watched Lakshya Sen’s quarter finale the next day. He won!! But what’s the point if he didn’t close the bag once again? But seriously, How to please an Indian mom hahaha? During the badminton game, she also said, “Hey, why is he standing in the corner? He should be standing forward, who is going to tell him?”
The next day, it was 200 m women’s race and the ladies were all ready, fierce, ecstatic and beautiful! While dad and I sat in anticipation to see who wins the race, my mum was having her own stand up comedy show going on in her head. After the top 3 athletes made it to the finish line, 2 finished slightly later, and 3 of them were left much behind surrendering to the fatigue. My mom didn’t hesitate to say, “Those 3 are heading over for the peppermint.” My dad rolled his eyes.
Every time we saw a coach yell furiously at the player on court, we noticed a reaction pattern. While some players nodded and complied, another bunch didn’t care at all. They hardly looked at the coach, engrossed in their own world, sipping on some water. My mom and I gave voices to the coach and player. “ Hey. Am I screaming to the wall? LOOK AT ME”.……
“Bleh yell whatever. Who cares?”.
My Olympic experience would’ve been so boring without her haha. We made 800 more jokes and laughed endlessly.😂
I am happy to announce that we’ve both mastered badminton, table tennis, pistol shooting 25 m, pistol shooting 10 m, archery, running race, artistic gymnastics, swimming and tennis. In case you aren’t looking for any expertise, we are happy to lend you some unsolicited advice.
Anyway, I couldn’t achieve my dream of being Tennis Champion at Paris 2024 so I drew myself one
Bye.
