Thank you for requesting feedback from your interview. We know that it is disappointing when you are not selected for a role.

The following are the reasons why we did not appoint you:

1. For the scenario responses, you had clearly looked at the website for our policies which was positive and you did understand about GDPR and confidentiality. However, the role that you were applying for involves significant communication with staff and students and we found that your responses were somewhat cold and formal. Indeed, you did not fully address all three scenarios and the panel was fairly concerned by the level of drooling while attending to answers two and three. Drool, in a person-facing situation, is rarely conducive to good levels of service and can, in any case, result in damp paperwork that is difficult to scan afterwards. It also has to be said that landing face-down on the desk in the front of you is only rarely appropriate when dealing with students. Although we do appreciate that first year undergraduates might benefit from this approach, if not already employing it themselves. For this reason, the panel doubts that you would action the policies and procedures that have been set down by the University and I am afraid to say that you did not score highly.

2. For the interview itself, the panel feel that there was, at times, a flippancy in your answers that was not appropriate. Indeed, it is hard to comprehend any situation in which the question about dealing with challenging individuals in your previous work could be answered with the rattling sound offered. While we acknowledge that there is a level of subjectivity here, overall, answering the question about your experience with team working by coughing up fragments of what appeared to be lung was not the considered answer the question demanded. Although you did make it clear, when your spleen followed, that you have worked hard in prior roles to cope with the demands presented by teams. The panel can empathise with how that feels.

Overall, therefore, we didn’t feel that your skill set matched the skillset that we require in this role and that is why you were not appointed in this case.

Have you considered an academic post?
