Is Your Man Living in a Cave?

The cavemen have come full circle

Thousands and thousands of years ago, when man decided to abandon the migratory life, he moved into a cave. We’ve come a long way since then. But wait — have we really? Or have we simply come full circle? Today’s men have returned to wanting their own cave. In fact, they’re actually known as man caves. And those lucky enough to have one in their home are the envy of their male friends.

The man cave is a relatively recent phenomenon, having arrived on the scene sometime during this millennium. Because I am not a man, and don’t even have a man living in my house at this time, I started asking my friends — both male and female — about their experiences with man caves. Some chimed in without even being asked, like the guy who said, “Men wouldn’t need caves if women would leave them some privacy and not talk into them constantly.” This person, by the way, is a was-band, which is a polite term for ex-husband.

Most women I talked to are quite understanding of their mate’s desire for a man cave. They told me that the cave is generally in the basement, has at least one, and often more, extra-large flat screen television sets, a fully stocked bar and refrigerator, a bathroom and sometimes even a separate entrance for undisturbed comings and goings.
