Love, Love, Love

Valentine’s Day is every day, isn’t it?

February has come and brought Valentine’s Day! Hurrah! It’s such a romantic month, the month of heart-shaped cushions and chocolate boxes, elegant dresses, tuxedos and bow ties, red roses, candle-lit dinners with champagne and strawberries. Awww!

This love-filled air has reminded me of a love(ly) conversation I’ve had with my daughter recently on the topic, sort of.

Saturday, so as usually everyone’s cleaning the house. Some music channel’s on and I can hear, “This is how you remind me of what I really am. This is how you remind me…” I dash to the TV set and turn the volume up, murmuring under my breath dreamily,

“Nickleback, Chaaaaad, my gorgeous Chaaaaad….mmm”

My daughter Carol stops next to me, watching the clip too, with a broomstick in her arms and asks, “How old is he?”

“I don’t know. Probably the same age as mine.”

“Oh, really? That means you could try to pick him up!”

I frown with indignation, “WHAT? You rather mean HE could try to pick ME up!”

“Oh mum, c’mon! Who would ever want to conquer YOU?”

With satisfaction and pride I nod in the direction of her father.

Carol snorts, “Him? You mean HIM? He simply lost all his patience because nobody’d wanted him before you! Ha ha!”

I realize I haven’t washed or combed my hair yet. I look at my filthy old baggy tracksuit, next at my hubby dressed in a similar fashion drinking beer and gobbling up mindlessly his afternoon snack — a sausage with some bread and mustard — and come to the conclusion that, actually, yes, there might be some truth in my daughter’s remark.
