In the back corner of The Carlyle is an imposing figure. Tall, dark, and inscrutable, he stares down at his phone with a heavy, furrowed brow. As I approach, I take in the dark brown cashmere sweater and pleated Armani pants, clearly tailored for a perfect fit, and notice the empty tables around him. After years of searching, people are reluctant to get too close to Bigfoot.

Coming off of a book tour and the end of a long week hosting SNL, he still looks fresh, though there are a few twigs caught in his neck hair. For someone who’s been so elusive, he’s definitely ready to be seen and heard.

I’ll start with the obvious question: Why now? Why, after literally thousands of years of elusive forest-dwelling, are you going public with your existence?

I know this might sound trite, but it was just time. Peeking out from behind trees, pacing hikers to scare them away…it gets fucking old. Can I swear?

Abso-fucking-lutely.

Great. Yeah, I mean, we’ve seen the stories of people coming out and being who they are without fear, and so we thought, why not us? So many people have seen us at this point, so it got to the point where we were like, okay, this is like George Michael or Ricky Martin or something. People know.
