National Beheading Day: A Fake Holiday Too Far

Some silly Days just shouldn’t exist. This is one of them.

In my quest to oberve a different silly holiday or fake awareness day for a whole year, I quite often came across days whose purpose and origin were little understood, even quite unkown. At such times, the fake holiday calendar sites will just say something like this: ‘No one seems to know when or where this holiday got started — let alone the rather disturbing question of why — but September 2 is widely known as National Beheading Day.’

Then again, don’t forget that anyone can launch a day — all you need is a few other people to agree with you. And if the Day is listed somewhere, then other sites (though not all, in this case) will follow suit. After all, there’s a Google monster to feed!

The Giftypedia site — which suggests gifts to mark different silly Days, and which I quote above — can’t think of anything more to say about National Beheading Day, other than to give it a 0/5 Gifty-ness rating, a helpful guide for the non-psychopaths among us.

Others go for a similarly jaunty, pun-tastic approach. ‘Heads will roll! Certainly, you’re level-headed. You’ve got a good head on your shoulders. So, keep it there. National Beheading Day is today. Hold onto your hat. And, make certain to keep your…
