At Subway, we’re dedicated to providing our customers with fresh, affordable meal options every day. Our commitment is reflected by every facet of our operations — from the minimum MFA requirements to become a sandwich artist, all the way to the wheat fields and yoga mat factories where we source our bread. However, recent “reports” have alleged our popular tuna fish salad is something other than what we represent it to be. Let us be clear: Our tuna is and has always been 100% horse.

We take pride in our 100% horse-based tuna salad, having introduced the product to our menus in 1983 when the sale of manatee meat was outlawed in much of the United States. Since then, our tuna (made from horse) has only grown in popularity, consistently ranking as one of our top 50 most available menu items.

Perhaps the confusion stems from the word “tuna” itself which, legally, can describe any meat that has ever…
