Patriarchy, Patriarchy (P-P-Pick up The Penguin)
You know what the problem with patriarchy is? It’s kinda masculiney and toxcity. However what is toxic masculinity?
1st Man: Whatever it is, it don’t exist.
2nd Man: Well….
1st Man: Got something to say?
2nd Man: Er, no….?
1st Man: Good, now fuck off.
“Toxic masculinity refers to a collection of offensive, harmful beliefs, tendencies, and behaviours rooted in traditional male roles but taken to an extreme. — verywellmind.com
Does the entertainment biz glamorise toxic masculinity?
Perhaps The Penguin, an American crime drama telly miniseries about “the transformation of Oswald Cobblepot from a disfigured nobody to a noted Gotham gangster,” can help solve this conundrum?
The Question: So, why is The Penguin an important and timely exploration of toxic masculinity, and not another excuse for Hollywood to wank itself silly over another ultra violent gangster drama?
The answers:
(A). Reservoir Dog
The Penguin is an awesome story of a differently abled man’s battle against adversity to become a success in the city he loves.
(B). The Usual Suspects
Dude, The Penguin is like the Sopranos, but betterer.
(C). Pulp Fiction
The Penquin is a much needed ground breaking reimagining of the well known villain from the Batman universe.
(D). Scarface
Dude, The Penquin stars Academy Award® nominee Colin Farrell. Have you seen Col’s transformation? The make-up? The physicality? It’s a truly original performance. No wonder he had to introduce the trailer.
(E). Married To The Mob
Everyone loves gangsters, everyone. If you don’t, there’s godda be summut seriously wrong with you. Capiche?
