Purple Pants and Carrot Cake
Playing favorites; losing the game
Everyone knows purple is my favorite color.
Everyone is wrong.
I don’t dislike purple; it’s just not my favorite.
My colors of preference are reminiscent of the tropics and the southwest: coral and terracotta; aquamarine and turquoise; and the overarching sun-kissed yellow.
I’ve dressed my house in accord with the hybrid palette; I’d dress myself same if I could find cool-season clothing in those shades.
Friends know I like bright colors, and purple abounds year-round.
All it takes is one to make the leap.
Chuck gives me a magenta dress. Marie gives me a fuchsia scarf to wear with it. Anna gives me a lavender hat to top off the ensemble. Chuck gives me a mauve skirt to go with the hat. Marie gives me a plum blouse to complement the skirt …
And so it goes: Everyone knows purple is my favorite color.
Everyone knows carrot cake is Chuck’s favorite.
Everyone is wrong.
