Remembering Sanford and Son
Some catch phrases from the show are still in vogue.
A lot of great comedies popped up during the 70s. “Sanford and Son” was one of them. It was actually one of my personal favorites. Many of us seniors still remember, “This is the big one”! Or, “I’m coming to join you, Elizabeth!” But there are a lot of great lines and scenes to remember from the show. And with that in mind, here are some neat facts about Sanford and Son.”
1: The show taught lessons. Lessons like a friend in need is a pain in the rear.
One of my favorite scenes in the whole series is when Fred’s friend, Grady, asks Fred to borrow $50. Fred’s response was great. He replied, “You caught me at a bad time. I’ve got it.” I’ve thought about that many times over the years.
2: Foxx’s first name was Redd, but his comedy was blue.
Redd did talk shows to prove he could be both clean enough and funny enough to be on TV.
3: Foxx quit Sanford and Son to go to ABC and host a variety show.
The “Redd Foxx Comedy Hour” lasted all of one month. It seems that total lifespan of the “Red Foxx Comedy Hour” was all of four hours.
