Last year, my friend Charlie, along with his girlfriend, Janet, went on a Carribean cruise with his parents, Eddie and Maria. In order to get the senior discount on both cabins, Maria — a savvy travel agent—designated one cabin under the names of herself and Charlie and the other under Eddie and Janet.

After they boarded the ship and checked in with the reception desk, they were handed off to the maid who’d prepared their adjoining cabins, to which she escorted them, scowling all the while.

Flinging open the door of the first cabin, she glared at Eddie, gestured toward Janet and said: “You ought to be ashamed of yourself, you dirty old goat — I shudder to think of the filthy things you’re going to do to this poor girl!”
