It may be a record that will never be broken.

He’s part of the team but isolated. He usually doesn’t look like the rest of the guys. Nowhere near as big or intimidating. Usually doesn’t have the tattoos or the braided hair.

Every practice while the other players are grunting, running and pounding each other in team drills he’s off unsupervised largely on his own. One of the guys — but different.

Often he skips the after practice/game beer with the rest of the team. Although he would be welcome, no one particularly asked him.

Most of the time, he’s ignored by everyone on the team. Oh, everybody is nice to him — but no one hangs out with him.

He’s like the guy whose hired on the construction site to paint a mural.

He probably played soccer in high school, not football.

He’s an NFL place kicker. He’s the most important player on the field for less than 35 seconds at a time.
