Feeling infatuated with someone was perhaps the most exciting part of my teenage and young adult life. There are certainly some interesting benefits of one-sided romance due to an uncontrollable infatuation:

  1. You become a poet and write couplets and songs.

She’s such a delight,
I lose my might,
when she’s in sight,
what’s wrong or right?
its all about being with her in the moment.

She’s such a sweety pie,
to her I can’t lie,
I just can’t see her cry,
she asks me, I try,
her wish is my command.

2. You become a singer, not just in the bathroom but everywhere. If people protest you hum or whistle. But you don’t stop producing joyful sounds from your mouth.

3. You can uplift your mood anytime by thinking about that person for a few seconds. It is more powerful and potent than meditation. You don’t even have to sit at a fixed place or close your eyes, that person’s face is always lurking around in your mind.

4. You’ll never feel bored because you’ll be daydreaming about that person while doing your daily activities. You can create your own world with them in your mind and live a happy life in it.

5. If you enjoy challenges and are too obsessed with your crush, you can take up lucid dreaming and become adept at it. You can use your world-building skills from the previous point and use them here.

6. You don’t have to share your food and feelings with the other person. That way the other person can’t offend you with their views. That person will only respond based on what you want them to say, in your daydreams (point 4) and lucid dreams (point 5).

Biggest benefit: You can break up and move on without any awkward conversations, bitter fights, or ugly confrontations. You have complete control over it. You can stop anytime you want. But you don’t stop. Not until someone enters your life and emotionally entangles you so deeply that you don’t want to look at anyone else ever.
