Until the third year of elementary school, I studied at excellent schools, all of them very, very far from my home.

But the stress of spending two hours in the school van (I was the first to be picked up and the last to be delivered) began to take its toll. Finally, my mother gave in to my requests and placed me in a new school close to home.

However, the new school was of a much lower standard than the ones I used to attend. I didn’t feel stimulated to learn like the others, and my grades plummeted. In addition, this school had something that no other school I’ve had — although it’s widespread — : homework.

My routine was well consolidated at that time, and when I left school, I wanted to have fun. But the new school required that I still dedicate myself to studying at home… And that pissed me off.

I HATED doing homework.

Because of this, one fine day, I had a genius idea.

I sat in the far-right row — who knew? — right in front of a girl with a hearing loss. I was pretty quiet then, she even more so. The Portuguese…
