I had an associate in the real estate business who appeared to be very successful. He wore the $1500 suits and drove a BMW. Over and above that, he held himself as a successful person would. You know, he seemed at ease with all the trappings of wealth; almost like he had it all his life, he was that comfortable with it.

Yet — I know him to have had humble beginnings, coming from a family who needed government assistance to afford to take care of him, his brother’s and sister.

I never saw the name of the real estate firm he owned on any of the buildings for sale around town.

Was there was something that I was missing in this man’s success?

Apparently, there was.

Over lunch one early afternoon he mentioned he hadn’t made a sale of a property in years.

The secret to his success:

He would rent a meeting room in a well known hotel for a weekend, usually in a large city on the East Coast. This coming weekend it was Buffalo, New York.

He would set up his power point presentation and teach people to do what he had never successfully done — sell real estate. After his meeting’s, 2, 3 hour sessions on Saturday…
