The Little Things in Life
I often read quotes or statements intended to inspire us to be better persons. Last week I read about how we should show appreciation for the little, often ignored things in our lives. I was heading into the bathroom after reading it. The first thing I saw was the toilet and I realized I’ve never expressed my appreciation for it. I needed to remedy that immediately.
First, although you are one of three in this house, you, so close to my bedroom are very special. As items go you are not only handy but extremely necessary for my health and cleanliness. And don’t worry, I don’t and won’t praise the other two in the same manner.
I appreciate your powerful flushing ability, especially when my male housemate has used your services. I must also ask: Does it bother you how long he sits on you? Or that he treats you like a seat in a library?
I appreciate your pearl white pristine color. And your height-it’s call chair height, right? It’s so pleasant to just slightly drop down on to you rather than with the other toilets where I must position myself many inches above, let go and hope I land where I intended.
I appreciate how you can be so peaceful for many hours but be so forceful when necessary.
Do you enjoy those quiet times? Would you like me to put your lid down to create a more peaceful experience for you?
Does flushing startle you? Should I tell you before I press your lever?
I truly appreciate you allowing me to swish such a rough brush with a gritty substance around your insides. Do you tolerate the pain because you are so proud of your sparkling self?
I apologize for not telling you how I feel all this time. But I need you right now. I need to sit.
