We all love these top ten lists, there’s no question about that. Top ten countries, top ten states, top ten small towns. And of course, the perennial favorite, top ten cities.

Why Are These Lists So Popular?

Well, duh. Many people live in cities. And many people are obsessed with themselves. So they want to see right away, when they see a list, whether their city has made the cut.

Why Are American Cities So Far Down The List?

Because, the grass is always greener, dummy. The people who make these lists know that most people reading them are going to be in America. Why, because the lists are written in English, and it is a well-known fact that Americans can read a little bit of English, even if they don’t understand it properly.

They know that when you see a city in let’s say Skandinavia, you’ll have that socialism envy. And when you see a city from let’s say, the Gold Coast of Australia, you will wish you too were having a g’day mate. But you’re not having a g’day, are you? No, you’re stuck in some dumb American city that is so far down the list you would have to keep clicking on refresh for a year before it came to your city.
