Trying To Make Sense Of MAGA’s Victory
On the morning after
I got some desperate emails from friends in the States this morning. I was both very glad to be an ex-pat and also very sad that my country has chosen this path.
Here in Spain we have a lot of political anger right now about the floods and the incompetence of the government. So it’s not like I’m in a particularly happy place.
There are problems all over the world. It seems like a tough time all around. We have a lot of right wing sentiment rising here in Europe. Certainly America is not alone in confronting the seeming thirst for authoritarianism that is sweeping humanity.
Yes, democracy and consensus are messy, frustrating affairs. How nice to just let a “strong man” take care of all that so we can live a peaceful life. I suppose that is the impulse that explains the strong man syndrome.
As a woman I am not surprised. Any female living in America has had ample evidence of the outright hatred and contempt that the males in America have toward the fairer sex.
I wanted to believe that had changed and Kamala’s election would prove me wrong about American chauvinism. Alas, it just proved me right. American men are blockheaded fuckwads who hate one thing more than any other: to be talked down to by a female. To be bossed…
