In an emergency vote held early Wednesday morning, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) voted to “expel, and therefore move out of” the USA. This follows the United States’ announcement to relinquish its seat in the UN Human Rights Council.

Citing unsatisfactory progress in the advancement of the UN Charter that was laid out in 1945, the member states that proposed the move — Mexico, China, Spain, Pakistan, and Palestine — called for the “liberation of the United States from (its) responsibilities.”

The United States was vanquished in a 145–48 vote.

A two-thirds majority of the 193-member United Nations General Assembly is required to expel or suspend a member from the organization.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said, “the United States’ continued transgression of the ideals of world peace, and disrespect for human rights seems to have prompted this action.”

The United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, called the action “retaliatory and unfair,” citing “anti-US bias proliferating the constitution and objective of the United Nations.”

Since the Trump administration moved into the White House in 2017, the United States has dropped out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the Paris agreement on climate change. Experts suggest that these actions have fostered sentiments of Anti-Americanism over time.

This move comes amid intense criticism of the United States’ policy of the detention of children separated from illegal immigrant parents.

In a joint statement released by parties to the move, “the increasing political turmoil, and seemingly preposterous governance of the United States has called for such a move.”

“The next actions of the United States are highly unpredictable, and the past actions (of the United States) have shown to be increasingly volatile. We cannot stand by such irresponsible behavior.”

The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, was quoted to be saying that, “unreliable behavior of a member State, particularly that of a permanent member of the Security Council, concerns us.”

“The current atrocities taking place at the border of the United States and Mexico are inadmissible and offensive to the objective of the United Nations.”

An official statement from allies of the United States has not been released as of yet, though experts suspect growing dissatisfaction towards the US government on the international scale.

It is currently unclear where the headquarters of the United Nations, currently situated in New York, will move. As per sources within the organization, a meeting has been slated for the 22nd of June in Geneva to discuss “the future of the Organization.”

The United States is the first country to be expelled from the United Nations.

FYI, this is ‘Fake News’. I was inspired to write this after reading that the United States has withdrawn from the UN Human Rights Council.
