The life cycle of the Hollywood celebrity is far more complex than the “birth, growth, reproduction, death” pattern of, for example, a salamander or an accountant. Indeed, these fascinating creatures pass through a unique series of phases that science still doesn’t entirely understand.

Birth

Forensic archaeology tells us that in the past, most Hollywood celebrities emerged from rural farming areas or urban factory environments. They would then migrate to their spawning grounds on the west coast of the United States to be “groomed” by older celebrities and related species such as studio executives.

While we still see this pattern, the species has evolved. It’s now become common for young celebrities to be born to parents already established in the Hollywood feeding grounds, eliminating the need for migration.

This emerging breed, known to zoologists as “nepo-babies”, have considerable advantages over their counterparts when competing for scarce resources, and can achieve dominance without undergoing…
