UPDATE: Times Are Just ‘Precedented’ Now
The ghost of Dick Clark weighs in.
--
It’s official. After twelve months of freakish anomalies and remarkable inconveniences, it’s safe to say times are no longer “unprecedented.” We’ve all got opinions and laments about the uninterrupted shitshow of this past year, but there’s one voice that stands out from the rest: current ghost and former host of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Dick Clark.
Like many of us, Clark has found himself “with a lot of time to think.”
“Are ‘change’ and ‘time’ distinct entities? Aristotle would say so.” “But what if,” Clark asks, with a twinkle in his eye, “if said ‘change’ is reoccurring, consistent, and predictable? Is it really ‘change’ to begin with?”
Clark empathizes with our need to classify these times but urges us to “surrender.”
“Control is a myth. Imagine: what if you let go? What would it be like to finally be free?”
Thanks, Dick, and have a great March!
