Woman over the moon after receiving boutique fudge box in lieu of paid overtime

A woman in London has received a large box of luxury fudge squares - some with edible glitter on top — from her employer as gratitude for working countless hours of unpaid overtime.

Laura Holdsworth, an account manager at the PR firm Love Me Too (LMT), was “over the moon” when she signed for the surprise package this morning at her home in Forest Hill. “It’s just so nice to feel appreciated,” she said. “This year has been hell, working sixty hours a week at the kitchen table while looking after two toddlers. But, then you get some really fancy sweets and it’s all worth it.”

The company’s CEO, Tim Burford, said he sent the edible gift boxes to all 600 LMT employees to make them feel special. “Without their tireless uncontracted work,” he added, “we would not be on track for record growth this year. They deserve every calorie.”

Not all of LMT’s staff appreciated the sugary handout, however. Zoe Pauset from IT suggested she would rather have “just got paid” for the hours she’d worked. Another employee, who preferred not to be named, described the gift as “bullshit.”

Burford is unfazed by what he says is “a vocal minority of ungratefuls,” pointing out that in a business the size of LMT, it’s impossible to please everyone, “even with hand finished toffee crumb icing and white chocolate swirls!”

LMT’s bumper profits mean the company now has plenty of cash to re-invest in the coming year. “We are considering buying a confectionary manufacturing plant,” Burford said, “our sweet budget has been through the roof this year.”
