A personal lesson

A few mornings ago our first chipmunk for 2023 came to visit us on our front porch. These cute little guys come to pick up the seed that the birds have dropped from their feeder.

Several years ago they were so numerous that we were being overrun by chipmunks. Their over abundance was beginning to attract snakes, including venomous ones. My husband, Rafe, became concerned.

Praise God, about that time, a little cat adopted us. At first she was very shy. But became quite friendly. And she was a hunter. She took care of the over abundance of chipmunks and little mice is no time flat.

Eventually, she went to live with a neighbor, and the chipmunks began to come back. However, I learned my lesson and knew that I needed to put some protective barrier, one that they couldn’t climb up to get to the seed feeder for the birds. Once that was done, we have far fewer chipmunks than we used to, thank You, God!

Now they and the little pinyon mice that live in the area seem to be in balance with their environment once again. This experience shows how human activity can quickly change the environment and create an imbalance. Feeding the birds without stopping the chipmunks and mice from getting to the seeds caused us many problems until God sent us a solution.

How often does such divine help save us from our own actions? Probably far more often than we realize.

Thank You, our Merciful God!
