A prose poem

personal photo

Have you ever heard the sound of a raven’s wing as it flies by, shiny black in the sky? Have you ever heard a black headed grosbeak sing or seen the light shimmering on a hummingbird wing?

Have you ever looked at the full moon through a bank of cloud so thick it was like a shroud? Have you watched the glimmer of the sun on the lake and heard the aspen trees quake?

Have you wondered what the chipmunk thinks?

Or why the skunk stinks?

Or have you forgotten what it’s like to be a child, when the sun is bright and the wind is mild? If so I am sad for you, for you are missing so much it makes me feel blue.

May God guide us all to remember our inner child. To keep our innocence and out trust in Him/Her.¹

May God give us exactly what we need to come back to our eternal home in as good a position as we have the capacity to be. May She/He make us whole once again!

Thank you for reading and have a blessed day.

¹ God has no need of a gender, being the Creator of everything including gender. However, we humans have difficulty understanding this and so attribute a gender to the Divinity. I have often wished that like some other languages, including Farsi, the English language spoke of God without a gender. A dear friend and sister whose native tongue is Farsi once jokingly shared the concept of “hesh” a combination of “he” and “she”.
