Working remotely comes with its unique set of challenges, but it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun!

One of the best ways to maintain connection and motivation in a remote workplace is through celebration, and while we definitely miss bumping into coworkers at the water fountain and team potlucks at the boss’s house, there are still ways to celebrate even if we don’t share the same office space. After all, research has shown that work friendships can significantly improve employee happiness and productivity.

For managers and team leads who are looking for ways to improve team morale and keep work engaging while remote, here are some tips on how teams can celebrate from a distance (with some bonus photos from our own virtual celebrations at Presently!)

But first… some principles to remote celebrates that I like to follow with my teams:

  1. Bring back the physical: Add a real-life touch by sending tangible items like lunch delivery, care packages, or swag.
  2. Spice up the tech: Try a new platform like Around or IceBreaker to change up the “room” you’re in.
  3. Everyone’s invited: Be inclusive of time zones and accessibility!
