C’mon India, Let’s Football
by Mathew M Philip
The praying season is almost upon us and it would be well worth our time to go all out in supporting the one religion which deeply unites us fanatics. Yes you guessed it right, it’s football I’m talking about and no I didn’t get it wrong, because it’s not European football but the Indian Super League which starts next month. With the second edition of the league almost underway, it’s time for us to come together under one common banner of ‘Indian football’ and show our support for a sport which is more than just a game. For the benefit of fueling this passion, we have come up with a list of places in Bangalore that you can go for a bout of this shared viewing experience along with enjoying a pint or two. The culture of watching a match while sitting in a pub with friends and fans is rampant in the European countries, but we too are not far behind when it comes to swearing at the top of our lungs at a missed chance or singing together at the sight of a magical goal. So here’s a list of places you can go for the ISL kick off
- Doffpub and Lounge, Indiranagar
Boasting of a proud football following, Doffpub in Indiranagar is the place to be if you want to surround yourself with fellow football lovers and enjoy watching a match along with some nice drinks.
2. Xtreme Sports Bar, Across Bangalore
As the name suggests, the love for football which these guys have is extreme. Spread across the city, you’ll find their joints in Bannerghatta, Cunningham Road, Indiranagar, Kammanahalli and Sarjapur.
3. Bak Bak Bar, Kormangala
Good food and good ambience is what you’re promised, and good food and good ambience is what you get. Bak Bak Bar is among those few pubs in Bangalore which would be screening the ISL come October.
4. Big Pitcher, Old Airport Road
One of the oldest and biggest pubs in the city, Big Pitcher is pretty committed to serving what their customers come for. Football fans, brace yourselves because here you can support your country’s premier football league along with a good couple of beers.
5. Bootlegger, Lavelle Road
A fancy place at a fancy location, Bootlegger has promised to screen the ISL matches. Fans and supporters who go there to cheer for their club would certainly enjoy their match along with the chilled beer and amazing food this place boasts of.
6. Happy Brew, Kormangala
Along with their brewed beer and signature dishes, Happy Brew also has a couple of good screens where they would be screening the ISL matches. Visit this place for an evening of charged up hormones and good food
7. 3 Monkeys Brewpub, Old Madras Road
Take a trip to this brewpub for a delightful evening. They promise to have a good a collection of beer, the food here is good, and most importantly for us, they would be screening football matches which is reason enough for us fans to set camp here.
Oh, and if there’s any other place which you think should have been included in the list, please feel free to mention it in our comments section. Have fun footballing!
